Let It Grow

Dane County Coliseum

Been listening to this every chance I can all week. The band's so tight, Bobby's singing passionate and precise, Jer's musicality soaring. Amazing.

Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad

Dane County Coliseum

Exhuberent and triumphant. Closes out one hellofa 2nd set and kicks like a rocket.

Sweet and subtle: A beautiful come down after the muscular peak Eyes - but the set isn't done and they ramp it up again for more. A gem of a show.

Casey Jones

Interrupted by bad fight in front of the stage. Phil goes bonkers, calls the security guard "Asshole". Weird scene/bad vibes.

Black Throated Wind

Keith on organ just kills it. He's hot in the mix and the song has a totally different feel for it. Show overshadowed by Nov.-Dec. '73 but worth it.

He's Gone

The jam AFTER the outro just so mysterious and beautiful.
Bird Song
Sept. 7, 1973
Nassau Coliseum

Total Bird Song. This show does drag in a few places during in the first set, perhaps due to being in the studio for the month prior, or new equipment. But by Bird Song, they were absolutely flying and it shows throughout the rest of the show. Just what I search for in this song.

Takes its time. And every sweet minute builds and builds. One gets the impression that Jerry chose the set list on his birthday as a big present to all of us....
Eyes Of The World

Roosevelt Stadium

Monumentally massive 2nd set - with a great Dark Star before it. This is an experimental yet tight version. Around 14:00 it really takes off into new territory. A beauty.
Dark Star
Aug. 1, 1973
Roosevelt Stadium

The real deal: Dark Star as endless source. It tickles your ears then floats you senseless, then moves into the farther corners of the cosmos. It stretches, it bends, it melts, it gets scary. Listen to it again and again and again, there's always something new in it....
