St. Stephen

Family Dog at the Great Highway

One of the definitive DS>SS>11 suites and it power rocks on its own. Young'uns: don't forget good '69...fear not and dive in!

Wharf Rat

Davis Gym, Bucknell University

Stretches further out than earlier ones, like the Birdsong before they seemed to find WR's deeper groove and go furthur with it. Result? Beeyootiful.

Sing Me Back Home

Saddle up heads, this is one of the nicest ones I know. Pre-Donna Jean, but the boys cover it with driving intensity and its nicely mixed for the era.

Nailed it. Part of the great April run that coalesces the '71 sound. Killing 1st set with manageable mix and saturation issues.

Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
April 12, 1971
Civic Arena

One of the tightest and best jams I've ever heard. Absolute magic. Goes straight into a killer Lovelight. This is an amazing show. Check it out.

Playin' In The Band
March 19, 1977
Winterland Arena

Lots to grok here: I'm just discovering this one and listening to the whole sandwich on repeat. I'm mostly a pre-hiatus Playin' guy, from its '70 Main-Ten origins through to the 40+ min fusion masterpieces of 1974, but this honestly just kicks ass from end-to-end. The 'Arabesque' jam is well named - it evokes both the Blues for Allah period and the '78 Giza shows. Fun fun stuff.
They Love Each Other

Winterland Arena

Has just a little more bite to it than the '76 versions, though still in the slower mode from the pre-hiatus ones. Flawless is right, as the man said.

Rock solid show opener. Tight from the start. That '77 perfection starts to shine brightly here.
Around and Around

Winterland Arena

B e s t o n e e v e r. Love how Jerry just doesn't want to stop and grinds out more and more and more.
Not Fade Away
March 18, 1977
Winterland Arena

Around 11:20 Jerry and Keith hit on a new riff that opened up the slow boil onto new terrain. Repetitious? Hardly.... They hit on something that just goes bonkers, turning NFA into hard acid.
