China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
June 6, 1970
Fillmore West

Short Cat, but very interesting transition, with Bobby driving in all his angular beauty, followed by a tight jamming Rider.

Want to here the '70 sound, the closeness, the transition from psychedlicore to country to arena rock? Here it is in all its chaotic beauty.

Cold Rain and Snow
June 5, 1970
Fillmore West

Like everything from this epic heady show, the boys are just exactly perfect. The vocals are so on. Jerry sounds great.

New Speedway Boogie
June 5, 1970
Fillmore West

With the exception of the unfortunate tape flip, this is a pristine acoustic version. Jerry has the vox of an angel here.

Friend of the Devil

Fillmore West

Pure and perfect. Fans of '70 will already love it. Those discovering the acoustic Dead, here it is. Wow.

A perfect version. Everything about this one is solid. The show the next night gets all the attention, but this set on the 28th is just beautiful.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
June 27, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

This suite cooks from the first notes. The Slipknot is the stuff of legend, and the Keith-Jerry interaction in Franklin's is just brilliant. Just when you think the energy is petering out Keith heats it back up. The whole thing feels like a pot of water simmering just under the boil: Thousands of happy little bubbles just ready to go.
Candyman

Harpur College

Headiest or not, this cooks. Right around three minutes in you can hear them shift gears and flip into overdrive.
Scarlet Begonias
May 21, 1974
Edmundson Pavilion

Ignore the haters. Donna sounds super sweet on this uptempo and funky standalone. Listen to the Charlie Miller (as always) if you don't believe me.
Wharf Rat

Auditorium Theatre

Beautiful harmonies, powerful ensemble playing, and a great crisp sound make this one a keeper. Comes out of a killer LIG too.
