Swamp blooze. Pigpen was well on this night.

Starts a bit rough, but the final solo and out chorus builds and builds into a blazing triumph.

Enter the pedal steel. Goddamned sweet sounds here. It's unfortunately cut off, but worth every precious second.

Turn On Your Love Light
Feb. 6, 1970

Pure '70 Dead. Like the HH before, this one grows steadily up to the full berserk, rather than exploding from go. Pig/Bobby outro is immortal.

Gorgeous harmonising and soulful singing. A clean, strong version that never drags.

A perfect version. Everything about this one is solid. The show the next night gets all the attention, but this set on the 28th is just beautiful.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
June 27, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

This suite cooks from the first notes. The Slipknot is the stuff of legend, and the Keith-Jerry interaction in Franklin's is just brilliant. Just when you think the energy is petering out Keith heats it back up. The whole thing feels like a pot of water simmering just under the boil: Thousands of happy little bubbles just ready to go.

Headiest or not, this cooks. Right around three minutes in you can hear them shift gears and flip into overdrive.

Ignore the haters. Donna sounds super sweet on this uptempo and funky standalone. Listen to the Charlie Miller (as always) if you don't believe me.

Beautiful harmonies, powerful ensemble playing, and a great crisp sound make this one a keeper. Comes out of a killer LIG too.
