The steel guitar, which I assume Jerry is playing, really helps to make this early version a good one.

The Other One

Fillmore West

^^ Agreed Phil is plowing through this one and taking every one else with him. This is a stand out version; and one of the best TIFTO1, thanks to the two outstanding Cryptical's.
The Other One
Feb. 28, 1969
Fillmore West

All the band members are sensing Jerry's every move on this one. The dynamics from understated to an intense attack. Not quite as aggressive as the, Phil Bomb, O1 from the night before. This is still an outstanding version, and another O1 from 69 that should be much higher on the list.
Death Don't Have No Mercy

^^I just re-listened to this one, I totally agree. Jerry really delivers this one, both vocally and on guitar! This one's a real gem.
Playin' In The Band
Oct. 31, 1971
Ohio Theatre

This is such a well played and mixed version, it just can't be overlooked. Jerry was playing some very inspired lead licks on this one. Keith was only a month into the band, but he was already providing an element to the band, along with Jerry's Strat, that that would change their sound. This was the sound that would carry into the magic of 1972, ^^ as Crow said.
Not Fade Away

This version exemplifies the tight rock and roll unit that the band was in 71. I think bobby may have hurt his larynx on this one, though.
