Big Railroad Blues
Oct. 31, 1971
Ohio Theatre

Just about as good as this song ever got. Just the right tempo and mix. Keith was adding some delightful honkytonk piano, and he was just a month in!

Deal

Ohio Theatre

Perfect tempo and playing on this 71 version from a really good halloween show.

Bertha
Oct. 31, 1971
Ohio Theatre

An energetic, well mixed 71Bertha that's been missed somehow. Keth had been in the band for only a month but already fitting in very well.

Tennessee Jed
May 23, 1972
Strand Lyceum

An almost forgotten Jed! This is well played and well recorded. Pig even plays organ on this one. Suprising ommision from such a stellar show!

Turn On Your Love Light
July 11, 1969
NY State Pavilion, Flushing Meadow Park

The drummers are fired up on this one. Even T.Cs joining in on this energetic version. This gets an Allman Brothers flavor at times.

The Eleven
Jan. 2, 1970
Fillmore East (Late Show)

Jerry takes a tenuous approach in the intro then works his way up to some assertive and imaginative playing. This version is tight and well executed by all!
St. Stephen
Jan. 2, 1970
Fillmore East (Late Show)

This is a very solid St Steven worthy of much higher recognition. This is on the soon to be released Dave's Picks 30. The Late and Early show archive source is quite good, though. The Eleven that follows this is a classic.
Dark Star
Jan. 2, 1970
Fillmore East (Late Show)

This is the Swiss Army Knife of Dark Stars, multiple functions in one unit: Classic psychedelic rock, space, ambient, soundscape, tighten-up, feelin groovy; It's all there. This was really a gateway piece for the Dark Stars that would follow this one. T.C was really contributing on this one. Trouble ahead for him, and the rest of the band, but on this night they shined.
The Other One
Aug. 20, 1972
San Jose Civic Auditorium

This is an improvisational adventure that needs to be heard!
Cryptical Envelopment
Feb. 22, 1969
Dream Bowl

There are so many good -That's it for the Other One's - from this era, this one is certanly up there. The gage for me now. is if I have the volume so high that I lose a little more of the hearing that I have left. I caught my self really blasting this one!
