Big Railroad Blues

Just about as good as this song ever got. Just the right tempo and mix. Keith was adding some delightful honkytonk piano, and he was just a month in!

Perfect tempo and playing on this 71 version from a really good halloween show.

An energetic, well mixed 71Bertha that's been missed somehow. Keth had been in the band for only a month but already fitting in very well.

Tennessee Jed

Strand Lyceum

An almost forgotten Jed! This is well played and well recorded. Pig even plays organ on this one. Suprising ommision from such a stellar show!

Turn On Your Love Light

NY State Pavilion, Flushing Meadow Park

The drummers are fired up on this one. Even T.Cs joining in on this energetic version. This gets an Allman Brothers flavor at times.

Dark Star

Stanley Theatre

Yes, this is a Jazzy, up tempo version. Phil and Billy where really driving this along, then transitioned into Cumberland, smoothly. Very nice.

Winterland Arena

This one is slow and meandering. It never seems to establish a solid motif or a groove. Billy is doing some interesting Jazz style drumming and Keith's electric piano adds a nice touch. This being their, supposed, last show, I would think it would have been more energized. Overall it's just not my favorite.

Avalon Ballroom

This is a good 68 version for sure. I don't think it has the fire that the DS from the previous night had.
Dark Star

Fillmore West

They where really starting to play with DS at this show. Phil is really driving this thing, and everyone is hanging on. Jerry is in especially good form One of the best of 68, for sure..
Dark Star
Jan. 17, 1969
Civic Auditorium

Their first Dark Star of 69, crisp and confident. Bobby was doing some nice interplay with Jerry toward the end. One of the drummers bass drum was out of tune. other then that, it was a good version.
