Big Railroad Blues

Just about as good as this song ever got. Just the right tempo and mix. Keith was adding some delightful honkytonk piano, and he was just a month in!

Perfect tempo and playing on this 71 version from a really good halloween show.

An energetic, well mixed 71Bertha that's been missed somehow. Keth had been in the band for only a month but already fitting in very well.

Tennessee Jed

Strand Lyceum

An almost forgotten Jed! This is well played and well recorded. Pig even plays organ on this one. Suprising ommision from such a stellar show!

Turn On Your Love Light

NY State Pavilion, Flushing Meadow Park

The drummers are fired up on this one. Even T.Cs joining in on this energetic version. This gets an Allman Brothers flavor at times.

After listening to dozens of DS versions I still prefer the trippy versions, like this one.

Nassau Coliseum

The best free jazz segment that I've heard in a Dark Star. With Branford and, I assume Bruce Hornsby, the musicianship was at a very high level. A very good late Star.

This is an exceptional version of D.S, as is the entire show. I was 19 years old when this show was performed, living about an hour away from this venue. I wish I would have gone to this show but I have no memory of it being advertised. I saw many good shows in that venue throughout the 70s. It was obviously a venue that suited them well. The only problem that I have is, Billy's tom - toms where out of tune. He was playing great though, as was everyone.

That is a good description of this show, Corral Sand Below, it is sharp and energetic for a 1968 DS.

This one is complex for 69. Lots of varied sounds coming out of Jerry's guitar. It's very dynamic and almost aggressive at times. A gem, for sure.
