Big Railroad Blues

Just about as good as this song ever got. Just the right tempo and mix. Keith was adding some delightful honkytonk piano, and he was just a month in!

Perfect tempo and playing on this 71 version from a really good halloween show.

An energetic, well mixed 71Bertha that's been missed somehow. Keth had been in the band for only a month but already fitting in very well.

Tennessee Jed

Strand Lyceum

An almost forgotten Jed! This is well played and well recorded. Pig even plays organ on this one. Suprising ommision from such a stellar show!

Turn On Your Love Light

NY State Pavilion, Flushing Meadow Park

The drummers are fired up on this one. Even T.Cs joining in on this energetic version. This gets an Allman Brothers flavor at times.

Dark Star
May 14, 1974
Adams Field House, U of Montana

This one took me by surprise. I think it's as interesting and complex as Veneta. What a wonderful musical journey, and then it goes into China Doll. Fantastic, this should be much higher on the list!

Jai-Alai Fronton

This is a smooth and constant flow of musical ideas. I think I that I like the 5-14-74 DS better, but this is a good one.
Dark Star
Nov. 5, 1970
Capitol Theater

I listened to a sound board version of this show on the archive. It sounded clear, and you can hear everyone. This is a good version, but not as good as 11/08/70, also at the Capital Theater.
Dark Star
Nov. 8, 1970
Capitol Theater

They are playing with a lot of energy and clarity in one of their favorite venues, the Capital Theater. A nice intro up to the first verse then a build up to a minimalist space jam. I have to be in the right head space for those jams. Over all, it's a good version.
Dark Star
Feb. 14, 1968
Carousel Ballroom

From what I can gather from the Archive, this was the 4th live performance of Dark Star. After just a few weeks of playing this song, they had changed the structure of the song and the instrumentation. Pig is playing the beginning theme along with Phil and Jerry is taking more lengthy solos. It's interesting to hear how they developed this song since this performance.
