Big Railroad Blues

Just about as good as this song ever got. Just the right tempo and mix. Keith was adding some delightful honkytonk piano, and he was just a month in!

Perfect tempo and playing on this 71 version from a really good halloween show.

Bertha

An energetic, well mixed 71Bertha that's been missed somehow. Keth had been in the band for only a month but already fitting in very well.

Tennessee Jed

Strand Lyceum

An almost forgotten Jed! This is well played and well recorded. Pig even plays organ on this one. Suprising ommision from such a stellar show!

Turn On Your Love Light

NY State Pavilion, Flushing Meadow Park

The drummers are fired up on this one. Even T.Cs joining in on this energetic version. This gets an Allman Brothers flavor at times.

Hard to Handle

Fillmore East

I can't see why this version is so far behind 08/06/71 in votes. All of the April, 71 - Fillmore versions should be right up there.

Fillmore East

This one is just bursting with energy. The best of the April 71 Fillmore shows and at least as good as the 08/06/71 version, in my opinion. This one of Bobby's better solos on this song. And Jerrys tearing this one up!

until about 4.30 into this one, this version is really good but not any better then the 4-71 Fillmore versions. But when Jerry takes his outstanding solo, the energy of the whole band kicks in and this becomes a barn burner. Overall, though, I think the 4/27/71 version is every bit as good as this one.

This show isn't on the archive. Crow or DS67 any info on this one?

The Ned part of that is referring to Ned Lagin, who was an experimental electronic key board player who sat in with the Dead, occasionally, in the early to mid 70s. He and Phil where good friends and would occasionally perform some very avant-garde material; also known as weard shit!
