Cryptical Envelopment
Feb. 20, 1971
Capitol Theater

A well delivered Cryptical opening a psyhadelic flood gate for a very strong single kit drums and an adventurious Other One.

Playin' In The Band
Feb. 20, 1971
Capitol Theater

This is an early stripped down version. There's no extended jam, or Donna screaming, just the basic song, deliverd well!

Not Fade Away
Feb. 20, 1971
Capitol Theater

Single kit opening, Phil comes in changing the bass line then transitions into a tasty, energetic Not Fade Away on a Goin Down the Road sandwich.

Truckin'
Feb. 19, 1971
Capitol Theater

First song of the first show of Micky's hiatus from the band. Billy more then makes up for his absense, providing a hard, rolicking, steady beat.

Black Peter
Feb. 14, 1970
Fillmore East

Just Jerry and Bobby on acoustic guitars. Jerry's vocals are haunting and beautiful. I love the acoustic versions of the songs that would become staples of their concerts for many years to come.
Dark Star
Nov. 7, 1969
Fillmore Auditorium

a DS, Uncle John Jam sandwich, very unique for them. No vocal for the almost 2 minute jam, then into the 2nd verse of dark star. Not my favorite version but worthy of a higher rating.
I Know You Rider
May 2, 1970
Harpur College

Slowing this song down and doing it acoustically ads an intimacy that was lacking in the earlier rave up versions. Jerry is showing his early country influences on this one. A treasure for sure.
Black Peter
May 2, 1970
Harpur College

This version of Black Peter, along with their entire acoustic set, is really special. The singing is superb, just Jerry on this one, they nailed the harmonies on all of the other songs from this set. This was kind of a land-mark show, showcasing the songs that would be on Working Mans Dead and Amercan Beauty; goodbye psychedelic era, hello country and folk!
Dancin' in the Streets
March 18, 1967
Winterland Arena

This is probably one of my favorite versions of this song. Jerry really rocks this one out. This isn't my favorite GD cover, but this one really works for me.
