Cryptical Envelopment
Feb. 20, 1971
Capitol Theater

A well delivered Cryptical opening a psyhadelic flood gate for a very strong single kit drums and an adventurious Other One.

Playin' In The Band
Feb. 20, 1971
Capitol Theater

This is an early stripped down version. There's no extended jam, or Donna screaming, just the basic song, deliverd well!

Not Fade Away
Feb. 20, 1971
Capitol Theater

Single kit opening, Phil comes in changing the bass line then transitions into a tasty, energetic Not Fade Away on a Goin Down the Road sandwich.

Truckin'
Feb. 19, 1971
Capitol Theater

First song of the first show of Micky's hiatus from the band. Billy more then makes up for his absense, providing a hard, rolicking, steady beat.

A must listen Jed!

Dark Star
Dec. 26, 1969
McFarlin Auditorium, SMU

I like it when Bobby is up in the mix. T.C adds some nice subtle organ work. This might be a little sloppy at times, but there was a lot energy in this performance.
Dark Star
Dec. 11, 1969
Thelma Theater

This one really defines the 1969 Dark Star musical structure. Nothing outstanding for me, though.
Dark Star
June 24, 1970
Capitol Theatre

When considering the Quality of a Dark Star sandwich, this one being a triple decker, I think of it as one entire piece of music. Going into Attics, works for me better then going into Sugar Mag. St Stephen is the natural song to end on, in my opinion. I like it better when they consider the mood of the songs that they combine, like going into Morning Dew or Stella blue instead of the more upbeat, or cowboy songs. To be fair, the mood of the 3 DS segments is pretty energetic and upbeat, therefore the entire piece works pretty well for me.

Mammoth Gardens

The recording that I listened to was muddy. It was hard to really pick out all of the parts being played. It still sounded like a good version, though.
Dark Star
Feb. 24, 1974
Winterland Arena

This is a solid version, but it just doesn't hit the buttons for me..
