Listened to this for the first time the other day (I know, I'm a newbie). This version completely melted my face off. Phil's melody in the beginning is simply fantastic. If you want to listen, I recommend grabbing the official release over the Archive versions. The Usborne matrix is good, but the official release gets rid of a lot of the warbling problems in the soundboard. In my humble opinion, this one should be higher on the list. But I will admit that there is a lot I haven't listened to yet.

Still should be higher up, in my opinion. Don't understand the hate from the peanut gallery. This is an incredible Dark Star, one that is even better when you're driving the family home late at night. It's not perfect — I'll grant you that. But this absolutely should be on the first page of heady Dark Stars.

Absolutely solid Scarlet -> Fire. Among the best from '77, and the China Cat call was great. The others are correct - the hype around the higher ranked versions comes from marketing and commercial box sets.

I've got no idea why this isn't higher. This jam absolutely steals the show, and feels like it will never end. Probably my favorite Help -> Slip -> Tower.

This is underrated. The show has its off moments; however, the jam here is very tight. The transition into Estimated wasn't all that hot, but the high-tempo Eyes that followed was absolutely amazing. As jztjnz notes, Jerry is a little bit sluggish at the start, just as he was for the entire first set. However, he seems to wake up once they hit the bridge, and the rest of the show really hits a groove. I'm guessing this would rate higher if the rest of the show were of a higher quality.
