Blow Away

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Stadium

This is a good version, but not great. Brent's vocals are strong, but the keyboard work is tame and there's a feeling that something is missing without backup vocals. It almost feels like Brent is playing some of his solo material and the Dead are unsure how to back him up.

What takes away from this is Bob and Phil singing. At times, you can painfully isolate Phil's singing, which has never been very good. Take away your emotions, take away your heart. Phil was never meant to sing.

This version is so perfect that the French, Russian, German and Chinese judges would all give it a 10.

David Nelson gives this an un-Grateful Dead feel to it. The truth is, the Dead didn't go out there and play with a mandolin, so hearing one in their music takes away a feeling of authenticity in this version.

Between Jerry's broken-down vocals and the drummers unsure of what tempo to play, this is far from being the best version ever. Put your emotions aside and listen to the music play.
