Good vocals from Bob - excellent jamming from Bruce and Jerry. Isn't this song almost always good?

Jerry nails the line about the face on the dollar. Good job, Jer!!!!!
Deal
Sept. 27, 1972
Stanley Theatre

For an old school 1972 Dead version of Deal, this is really good. 20 years later, the Jerry Garcia Band would make this sound like a demo tape.

Fox Theater

Some songs get better over time, some get worse. Deal got better. This version sound old fashioned, dated, quaint. If you're going to listen to this whole show, sure - go for it. But to seek it out to hear this Deal? No.

Jerry Garcia Band fans just smile, laugh, roll their eyes, shake their heads. Jerry played MUCH better Deals with the JGB - and that's using inferior musicians - David Kemper aside. David Kemper could drum circles around Billy and leave him choking on dust. On just about every night from 89-92, the JGB would play a better Deal than this.

Weren't they supposed to be doing something with Mack The Knife?
