Perfect execution, akin to the Europe '72 version in terms of precision, Kreutzzman is all over the kit. Fiery Garcia licks reaching incredible peaks

Oh my, the band interplay is absolutely top notch and so mature. Ultimate boogie-gusto, Jerry givin' his all and singin' with soul. Great shit.

This blew my mind at the movies, the vocal jam at the end was insane on the big screen

Absolutely incredible. 1971 magic. Early Keith is on.
Wharf Rat
June 20, 1983
Merriweather Post Pavilion

I still find this Wharf Rat to be the most otherworldly moment in their entire history. Something about this one is incredibly mysterious, ethereal, and over the top in terms of soul power. You can hear rain falling and thunder roaring in the distance, the thunderstorm makes it's way over, and strikes at the perfect moment. Lightning strikes the PA during the high point of the mid-jam (of which you can hear on tape, sound cuts for a second, the crowd goes fucking bananas, and phil lesh goes into the craziest hyperdrive ever), going into "I'll get up and fly away", and The Dead blast this one from Merriweather, MD to Outer Space in seconds. Perfect mind-fusion among all members. Also, given that Garcia wasn't in particularly good physical and mental health during this period, this version stands as very poignant. This by far is the most unique Wharf Rat, and my favorite by a long shot. After hearing this, all the others sound lacking, because this thing is incredible. Oh, and Brent Mydland is insane in this.

Grate shit. Not balls to the wall and threading the needle in the ending jam of 8/27, but this has some unique passages, particularly from Garcia that warrant it a listen. Worthy of my upvote.
Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
April 27, 1977
Capitol Theatre

After the first big jam, when they go back into "rio grandeo" section, phil's bass is so satisfying. He gets that little two note groove that is fantastic and paired with soulful Garcia vocals. This one gets my upvote. Monster version.

1974 perfection is damn right. This is no sloucher. And probably better than 3/4 of the ones already listed.
