Nice long drums with some weird Apocalypse now type Space. Solo transition into the groove for NFA

Big River

Capital Centre

The nice set of "Never Trust a Woman" and "Mama Tried > Big River" contribute to the old-timey fun of this show. Solid version here, with a brief piano solo and some great cowboy leads from Garcia.

Huge sound from Brent on the synths, very supportive interplay driving Bobby. Nice Phil sound, and Jerry builds the whole band to a nice top.

Solo's a little tentative, but Garcia is having a blast playing the tune. Video's worth a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUwC6tDJD1o#t=33
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Feb. 5, 1978
Uni Dome, U of Northern Iowa

Probably the best Keith playing I've heard, probably the most musical "Scarlet," probably the most jammed-out version. Simultaneously. And that’s *before* “Fire.” I love the Copps version (Mosque is obviously overrated but well-known), and there’s no way this version right here is not a serious competitor for #1 (aside from being less well-known). Dusborne matrix is the bus, get on and see for yourself. The preceding “Samson” and Bobby bit are must-hears too.

There's a reason this is rated almost twice as high as its nearest competitor. Some of the hardest rocking Dead you will ever heard.
