Not Fade Away
April 3, 1970
Field House, U. of Cincinnati

Short, hot, right into a killer "Lovelight"

Candyman
April 3, 1970
Field House, U. of Cincinnati

Premiere version from the middle/acoustic set. Audible buzz on the SBD, but worth the historic interest and for Jerry's wordless penultimate verse.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
April 3, 1970
Field House, U. of Cincinnati

Jerry stumbles a bit during the transition, but a powerful early version.

Stella Blue
Sept. 11, 1982
West Palm Beach Auditorium

Highlight from the end of the show.
7
Truckin'
Sept. 11, 1982
West Palm Beach Auditorium

Kicks back into the cowboy vibe from earlier in the show, leads into a stellar "Stella."

Jerry's tone is dialed for this show, and Bobby's having a great night. Wish Garcia hadn't bailed on the second interlude, since Bobby was throwing down some great parts. Jam peaks harder than one might expect.

Bobby: “it doesn’t sound the least little itty bit like it did during soundcheck so we’re still reeling in disbelief but we’re going to get out act together real quick here.”

vocal issues noticeable here. Bobby’s rhythm playing is outstanding, and changes the groove (and energy!) during the “what would your momma think” verse. Band (ok, rhythm section) seems more engaged after phoning in parts, and Jerry’s solo engages with the sound and silence of the hall itself (like it does on those nights when he’s really feeling it and has his tone dialed in). Bobby is VIP here though.

Probably my favorite version, they nail it. This show's always worth a revisit.
The Other One

Freedom Hall

A dense, deep jam. Multiple sections and head spaces. All-time version.
