China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
April 1, 1980
Capitol Theatre

This “I know you Rider” has one on the tightest, most energetic closing jams you have ever heard. Not a well know show, give it a listen.

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Sept. 4, 1991
Richfield Coliseum

30 + minutes, well jammed, many different themes. The Fire is especially good, both keyboardists adding texture, Jerry finding a few unique rifts.

Maine shows were always top notch, no different here with an excellent version of Stagger Lee.

Winterland Arena

I’ll give the nod to the 10-18 Winterland version, but this one is also very good.

Fat, Fat distortion during Garcia’s final solo, short but exciting, give it a listen.

Hard to Handle

Fillmore East

The first of the five night Fillmore East closing run, they all are good, this one deserves more than one vote. The recording is not as pristine as the rest of the run, but it still smoke, especially Phil.

Fillmore East

We had this tape in High School, a couple of years after it was played, still holds up to those first, “Holy Shit these guys are good” thoughts. Played all 5 nights of the Fillmore East closing run, and all are good, this one is the BEST.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Oct. 14, 1983
Hartford Civic Center

Hard to believe there has only been one “official” release from 83’, this Scarlet> Fire is phenomenal. The Scarlet Jam & the 2nd Fire solo are what makes this one stand out to me. There is a rift in the 2nd Fire solo that just grabs you, it starts to soar and makes you dance every time I hear it. I wore out my master, from 83’ to 96’ when it was released as a Dick’s Picks. Come on Dave give us some more 83’ it’s been too long.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Nov. 1, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

The fall of 79’ had a great run of amazing Scarlet>Fires, starting with Holleder on 09-01 and ending with this one, all are worth seeking out. This Nassau version has a lot of depth and new idea and themes, love Weirs’ chords in the second jam.
Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
May 12, 1977
Auditorium Theatre

Just listened to this version again, part of the May 77’ box set. Can’t think of a better version at a better venue, the great ones I saw in 77’ Englishtown & Binghamton have nothing on the Auditorium Theatre venue wise, wish I was at this one.
