Jerry is playing very pretty here, and Brent is killing it on vocals & the keys. Good stuff.

Jerry's hot on both fronts here - expressive vocals and lovely playing.

Caution
Jan. 8, 1966
Fillmore Auditorium
This is a pretty early & exciting tape. There's Primal Dead and then there's Primordial Dead - who would've thought, eh? The blues influence of the Dead is strong on this tape. Maybe not the best ever, but still an exciting, fascinating tape. It's amazing we even have it, really!
Hey Pocky Way
Aug. 5, 1989
Cal Expo
Brent's ripping hot during this start, and it moves cleanly into a short and sweet "Playing in the Band." A great start to a pretty darn good second set.
Turn On Your Love Light
Sept. 19, 1970
Fillmore East
I always love a "Lovelight" with some particularly good rapping or audience chemistry - that's why I love 2/13/70 and 3/20/70 so much. Here, though, the jamming may beat both of them out. Really fantastic stuff.
Cream Puff War
Nov. 19, 1966
Fillmore Auditorium
I can see why Jerry wasn't all too happy with this song, but this is probably as fired-up as this one ever got. A pretty great jam from what is, to my ears, a standout '66 show.
The Eleven
Oct. 12, 1968
Avalon Ballroom
The Avalon always seemed to get a ripping version of "The Eleven" out of the gang. This is certainly the hottest, most roaring version of the song I've ever heard.
