A laid back one. Phil's bass and Billy in the groove.

Everyone is on for this one. Great vocals, even by Donna. Why isn't this getting any love?

Well, I was on the floor about 2/3 of the way back and hallucinating. I asked loudly to no one in particular, "is that Kesey up there?", only to have several people turn around and stare at me. In my condition, it was sort of scary. Anyway, it was him and he was in his "thunder machine", a large percussion apparatus that I think dates back to the Acid Test days. (This show was really fun but an ordeal for me. I lived in San Diego at the time and went to both nights there, then was on my way with my best friend to Palo Alto to crash with another friend before heading up to SF. We had enjoyed the shows in SD so much we decided to drive to UCLA and see if we could get tickets. We did, and after that show we headed out on I-5 and stopped at a Denny's in the wee hours to eat; the restaurant was full of Deadheads! By the time I got home to SD I had picked up some virus and was sick for a week. By the way, watching The Blues Brothers on acid was pretty intense. We laughed and laughed...)

I want to mention the tender vocal duet of Jerry and Donna. Jerry exudes emotion. This is a very fine rendition, taken at a languorous pace.

Yes, this show was overlooked for quite a while and one thread I read from 2023 discussed what hadn't been released yet from 1977 and the second set from this show was widely discussed. And then it was released in 2024 as one of those bonus discs.

Cue the mallets. This entire show is quite good, maybe great. Betty board and one of her best efforts. A shame Dave chopped it up when releasing volume 26.

Boy, is this underrated.
