Not for the Donna-critical. Instrumentation-wise, this continues the jazzy direction the summer had taken. I found myself listening to Billy a lot during the jam. Very nice.

I was into fusion in 1974. My main band was Weather Report. It seems that the Dead were listening to what was happening in this world. Keith must have been listening to Herbie and Zawinul. One of my favorite drummers is Jack DeJohnette. At times on this PITB I almost think I'm listening to him and not Billy. This jam is easily as good as any jazz fusion being played in 1974.

Caught up in sunlight. This is it, folks. The ONE. The vocals on this entire concert are excellent, which helps put it into the top third (at least!) of the tour. Add incredible recording/mix and the inventiveness. Wah-wah madness at the end.

This one does not work for me. At about the 10 minute mark, the band is getting into a weird space while Pig is still rapping on his sex obsessions. It doesn't fit into the previous vibe of the show, either.

Nice to hear Keith's contribution so well. Group effort is strong. You can just listen to one instrument and enjoy it that much more. And I thought was 8/25/72 was good. Lot of 72 versions to appreciate.
