Excellent conclusion to a Wharf Rat > I Need a Miracle > Bertha > Good Lovin'. From Road Trips Vol. 1, No. 1. Finishes with an energetic flourish.

Does anyone have any more info about Bob crying in this version (i.e. is there any video or eyewitness accounts)? I'm just not totally sure he's crying. His voice definitely catches, but it's hard to tell whether from crying or just something stuck in his throat. Anyway sorry don't mean to be a downer! Haha. It's still a great version either way.

Regarding jbrucer's comment, this version does appear on the Wharf Rat page for me. Hopefully whatever you were experiencing was just a temporary glitch.

It's hard to compare this version to others because of the sound issue and subsequent aggressive jam that everyone has noted. It's certainly an amazing version, well worth a listen! But for a more "standard" version, my go-to at the moment is 5/28/77 (officially released as "To Terrapin"). I see 5/26 and 5/13 were both mentioned here; I'll have to listen and compare. But actually sound issue aside, it's a song that's just hard to compare versions to each other because a lot of them sound quite similar.

While it's true that we're talking about art here, which is subjective, I don't think it's "Dead hubris" to say that songs on well-known shows sometimes get ranked above more deserving versions. It shouldn't be possible for EVERY song on say, Veneta or Cornell to be among the best ever. Yet almost all songs on both shows have high rankings. Now having said all that, the question still remains of whether this particular version is overrated because of its placement on the truly excellent Dick's Picks 18. I think it is a bit, but many others don't, so I'll leave it up to the listener to decide.

Bobby has some interesting vocal flourishes on this one. Really nice version.
