Truckin'
March 7, 1981
Cole Field House

From a kind of under the radar show: Truckin out of space winds down into a spacey jam, atypical of the period.

Cryptical Envelopment
Sept. 3, 1985
Starlight Theater

Really, none of these '85 versions are all that great (except as novelties), but this one is probably the strongest. JG gets all the words right!

Bertha
Oct. 19, 1994
Madison Square Garden

Okay, so maybe Garcia drops some words (& even verses) here and there...it gives him an opportunity for an extra long solo, which winds around nicely.

Ripple
Dec. 6, 1980
Mill Valley Recreation Center

With the small crowd you can actually hear the band sing!

Crazy Fingers
Sept. 7, 1985
Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Classic version. Segues into Samson.

Playin' In The Band
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

Though this used to be in regular rotation, I hadn't listened to it in a long time, found myself thinking, "Probably it's overrated." Then I listened to it again. Nope, not overrated at all. Simply the best. Garcia is locked in, and the percussion & rhythm section are right with him in everything he does. Required listening for aspirant DeadHeads.
Turn On Your Love Light
Feb. 13, 1970
Fillmore East

Amen to that last comment. The brilliant capper to the greatest single set they ever played.
Dark Star
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

After 20+ years of listening to this version, I still find new things each time.
Dark Star
May 11, 1972
Rotterdam Civic Hall

Everything you love about E72, everything you love about DS. Superb.
Eyes Of The World
Aug. 13, 1975
Great American Music Hall

Picture perfect. (Like the rest of this show). Phil's solo...what can I say? One of his greatest single achievements. Also note Keith's electric piano, giving the song a different feel from '74.
