Incendiary version. Soaring licks and Phil bombs. Bobby cheeses the vocals but his playing on the final run sends this one over the top!

Maybe because I was riding the rails in front of Jerry but for me, this is the one. The stage was literally crackling and buzzing with energy. Every note had purpose. Super tight, turn on a dime early 80’s party Dead at it’s best. The whole show is a good listen but the tail end of the first set with the Cumberland, LL>Supplication, Deal is over the top.

Only Stephen without the orchestrated opening notes. To my ears the one man gathers jam is harmonic perfection. I can see why they practically shelved it after this performance. Two more at the end of 78’, one in January of 79’ and the last 3 in October of 83’.

The one man gathers jam is something to behold. As clemintinescaboose notes in archive, this is more “noodling nirvana vs. 1/22/78’s harmonic paradise”. To my ear the Fall 77’ sound continued through 2/5 and ended at Normal on 4/24.

IMHO, the definitive Dark Star>Morning Dew. Is this the first MLB? The opening notes are haunting and make a great ring tone

I think the first MLB was 9/21/72. To my ears, the last 5 or 6 minutes is centered around the Sugar Magnolia to follow. I’ve heard it called the “Sunshine” jam as it sparkles like no other. The playing is so intense before the 1st verse that they have to reel it in and slow down to come back to the theme. Are there any 2nd verse Dark Stars in 72’ other than the Paramount show on 7/26?
