Usually not much on the reggae treatment of "Friend" -- sometimes it just sounds too shiny, sometimes the band doesn't have the discipline to pull it off...reggae is deceptively hard to play. But they lock right in here, listening hard to each other and staying out of each other's way -- a whole lot of space, generous sprinklings of magic. And that piano solo! Almost baroque in its focus. A wonderful version

Making the most of the passing chords in this one - fantastic playing, great energy - Bobby's guitar really cutting in heavy in the chorus just before the solo...which brings a whole new energy to the tune, a real tonal shift. Heady!

Coming out of "El Paso" and easing into one of the mellowest, finest grooves you'll find anywhere. Basswork gorgeous, keys ghostly. The solo starts out great but isn't all-time...but this version should be heard, its character is special.

Agree. This one has a caffeinated kick to it that really pops - I love the '77 ones, too, the stretchy-loose-liquid ones...but this one feels so true to the reggae roots, all that sweet syncopation. Guitar tones on this one all in that sweet sweet '74 pocket. Superb.
