Playin' In The Band
Nov. 18, 1972
Hofheinz Pavilion

When someone asks you why people play the bass. this is what you need to play to them. Phil bombing the way forth for the band. Is jerry leading? is Phil leading? does it matter? when this kind of interplay boils through the surface, you could follow a fractal and reach any conclusion you like. that's the power of this version. it's jazz; a path that any creative being aspires towards. an infinity of patterns and interplay that you get to pick and follow from the content of the noise wall that's mounted by the sentient exploration and experiential familiarity that the grateful dead honed over the years; the essence of what makes them such a force.

what a great version. I enjoyed it much more than the first placed version at this moment. It's like the best of Frank Zappa's complex jams, jangly sound of syd barrett's guitar, and a pinch of the dead signature to elevate it all beyond.
Stella Blue
Oct. 21, 1978
Winterland Arena

My canine sister died recently, so I was on a Stella binge. the cut at the end hits you just as much as the existential dread of the song. that's how good the band was; the loss of audio fidelity had my eyes tearing.
Lost Sailor -> Saint of Circumstance

Hartford Civic Center

Heard this on GD radio just a minute ago. what a beastly moment of synergy. The piano parts especially took me to a crazy head space.

Just listened through this one on archive and it blew my mind beyond this universe.
