Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower

You can tell within the first few seconds of Help that they really mean business here. This has a more aggressive feel than 5/9/77, but it’s more exciting to me.

After comparing the big 4 from May ‘77 (5/8, 5/15, 5/19 and 5/22) I still feel like this one is the best. It has an indescribable, otherworldly, mind-melting, groovy feel that the others (as fantastic as they are in their own way) just don’t have. Another reviewer said it best: “Holy crap what is this, am I even on earth anymore?”
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
May 8, 1977
Barton Hall - Cornell University

I haven’t listened to this one in a long time, so I just gave it another listen on the official release. I hate to say it, but I gotta give it my vote. Every note really is just exactly perfect. 5/21/77 is my other go-to. 5/17/77 is also fantastic. They are both pretty much on the same level as Cornell.

I will not vote for this because it’s getting dangerously close to topping 9/27/72 which cannot happen!

I almost always agree with Grendel. He’s one of the few reviewers I actually trust because he doesn’t write glowing reviews for every version of every song like some folks, but I don’t see the magic in this one. It’s a fine version for sure, but I’d rank 5/8/77, 5/21/77, 12/30/77 and 1/22/78 all above this one.
