Comes A Time

Easttown Theatre

Awesome a little faster paced then it would eventually be, still emotionally resonant with a stark arrangement.

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Dec. 22, 1978
Dallas County Convention Center Arena

Wish there were a crisper recording up on Archive, Sounds like the tape i had. i remember when this was considered ok quality not good or great but certainly ok. now its bad but to me still listenable and the performance is top rate, the Scarlet has an extra little bounce to it and the fire is nice and jammed out. Scarlet is longer then fire like some of the later 1978 pairings. Drums and Jerrys vocals sound real good on the tape his guitar is less audible when he's singig but can be heard during the instrumental passages where he is playing some great lines. Keith too is playing some real cool runs during scarlet. The longer you listen your ears adjust to the lower quality audience. Donna is nice and dreamy during the transition not over singing or shouting but beautifully floating on top of the music with jerry's guitar. The exit jam and transition gets really out there and spacey and is nice and long, A Jerry noodle fest with the drums and phil keeping nice foundation. Around 11:00 mark it starts to sound a little like playin they get so far out there, the drums start to bring it back nicely, Jerry just noodolling away i a spacey beautiful way. Its really cool the way the drums start thumping towards fire as jerry is just noodoling of to outer space. Keith starts steering it towards fire as well Jerry still in space. Jerry then just falls right into the fire wah out of his noodoling still not quite there then the band starts fire so Jerry starts hitting the Fire notes A real cool transition out of deep space. quick but powerful like a mike tyson fight a killer pairing for late 1978.
Uncle John's Band

Augusta Civic Center

This is fantastic the whole second set of this show is terrific first set isn't bad either. Terriffic the way playin weaves in and out of the second set.
The Eleven
Dec. 30, 1969
Boston Tea Party

Really long and Jerry is smoking hot throughout the entire tune. A total Jam fest one of the best, everyone is on top of their game but Jerry just shines a little brighter. Amazing stuff, trippy and very psychedelic sounds very 1969.
Cream Puff War
Oct. 7, 1966
Winterland Arena

Date as many of these early tapes may be incorrect. Still a cool performance definitely worth a listen.
Dark Star
Dec. 30, 1969
Boston Tea Party

This Dark Star is a beast a nice real long fluid intro then after the first verse TC steers it in to DEEP OUTER SPACE, this shit gets real fucking crazy. Awesome a true masterpiece version. 20 minutes of ecstasy. This is why OI love vintage Dead, so exploratory and transportational this shit just gets me off. Amazing who good this is, Jerry the Drums The keys its all just meshing into a brilliant symphony that descends into chaos, Jerry comes bubling out the other side beautifully this is some truly great shit. This is one of TC's finest performances and Jerry is just ennjoying the hell out of it you can hear it in the playing it's masterful. This has to be one of the most tragic cuts in all of grateful dead tapedom. it comes back well into the alligator lyrics, oh what are we missing. we do have 19;23 seconds of shear amazing joy.
