After a power failure mid-song they jam it out extra long to close the first set

Epic version elevated by Hornsby and the boys jamming it out in the pouring rain

Terrapin Station
Aug. 15, 1981
Memorial Coliseum

Even through the murky recording you can hear how delicate, powerful and trippy this version is. Great jam into drums

Estimated Prophet
July 17, 1982
Ventura County Fairgrounds

Fun 80s version with a nice middle jam that fizzles out “like a Switch watch” according to Bobby, ends with a gooey jam into drums

Big River

The Eleven
Dec. 26, 1981
Oakland Auditorium

There’s a gentle build to the actual Eleven jam that is just...gorgeous. Emotive and unique, and the Eleven part is fiery stuff
Estimated Prophet
Dec. 26, 1981
Oakland Auditorium

Following an equally astounding Scarlet>Fire, this Estimated really brings the goods. Faster than your average version, not a missed note, and some godlike interplay between the boys. Don’t miss this one.
Drums -> Space
Jan. 11, 1978
Shrine Auditorium

A short drums segment with Phil that leads into an extended jazzy full band jam before St. Stephen. Unique and beautiful.
The Other One
Aug. 20, 1972
San Jose Civic Auditorium

If the board was a bit cleaner and there wasn’t that unfortunate AUD cut, this would be much more highly regarded. If you can hang around for the ride, it’s a real mind twister with poignant, fluid jams to boot.
Playin' In The Band
Aug. 22, 1972
Berkeley Community Theatre

Contemplative, jazzy and exploratory. The band is fully locked in, with Billy fully in the pocket. The jam builds into simmering tones of molten heat without ever fully erupting. I like this one for its measured, tempered feel and there is an elegant, organic way the band ebbs and flows together. Give this a listen.
