Outrageous version. Takes a second to get the mix dialed in, but man they blow the roof off. This has to be one of the best Wall of Sound shows.

Bird Song
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

I always have trouble deciding between this version and 9/21/72. They're both phenomenal in their own ways, this one being a little mellower than the 9/21 version. I have to give the edge to the 9/21 version though because of Keith's breathtaking solo in the middle of the jam, easily one of the best he ever played (of any GD keyboardist, really). But this is still a phenomenal version and one of the high points from this amazing show.

Of the versions listed here, this one is probably my favorite. The 5/19/74 version is great, but mainly because of the Mind Left Body Jam that follows. 11/6/77 isn't anywhere close. This song was played best in Europe with both Keith and Pig, and this is probably the best version from the tour. Definitive.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
May 8, 1977
Barton Hall - Cornell University

I do believe this is the best version I've heard, definitely way better than any of the Brent versions listed below. But Scarlet>Fires are hardly my favorite dead jams, so I haven't done a truly extensive search and don't really care to. This is the version I'll listen to when I'm in the mood.
Eyes Of The World

Raceway Park

Never understood this appeal of this show. There's way better versions from may 77, let alone hundreds from 73 and 74. Oh well.
The Music Never Stopped

Great American Music Hall

This is my favorite hands down. I must not be the only one who thinks so because this version was selected both for the Long Strange Trip doc and "The Best Of The Grateful Dead Live"
