Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

Cream of the crop, top shelf Scarlet<Fire. Easy to tell Garcia is in the zone. Lucid, flowing, and fabulous version.

Classic Eyes<China Doll. Nearly all of the versions from 73' are great, but this is one of the best.

Dire Wolf

Fillmore East

Americana at its finest. Slow, mellow, rewarding, clean, polished, and homey. One of my favorites.

A case could be made for this being the finest version ever.

Boston Garden

This contains one of my favorite Row Jimmy solos, so emotive and so good. A show where the magic was truly there.

Beautiful version, Jerry's guitar playing is pure bliss.
Dark Star
March 28, 1973
Civic Center

Fantastic version, this might just be for me second to only 11.11.73 for best dark star of 73'. Painfully subjective comment, especially with a year like 73', therefore I can conclude as much as I like these two versions, others are different in ways that are maybe even at moments superior, so what I can say, is that all are great.

Have to agree with the above statement. This version is just a great example of the awesome 71' sound. Lesh pounding away and Garcia with the mix of mellow and powerful leads. Great country sound, great version, and awesome year. Too add, I also love the vocals from 71' for some reason, they always just feel so authentic, it was the epitome of the Dead's true style, hard to replicate especially from 74 onward.

Super cruel tape cut here...
