Sunrise

Baltimore Civic Center

Pure Donna vocals, and raging Garcia solo before the last verse. Donna sounds great throughout this entire show—it's a real smoker.

NOT just another '77 version. BIG bridge solo, pure Jerry/Donna backing vocals, scary Mutron solo into Eyes. One of the best.

NOT just another '77 version. Insanely-tight jamming, 2nd set opener, KEITH, JERRY, PHIL! Best version I've heard.

P.N.E. Coliseum

Easily the best '74 version. Keith plays beautiful Rhodes piano, Phil tears it up, and the vocals are pure.

Out of Half-Step opener of the last show of Brent's first tour with the band. Love his early '79 keys sound.

Dark Star
April 28, 1971
Fillmore East

I am not a big fan of spring/summer '71 Dead, but my old copy of Ladies and Gentlemen-Fillmore East-April '71 always gets me high. This Dark Star is on it, and it is easily one of my favorites. Great to hear TC on the B-3 again, sitting in. Phil bombs after the first verse are heady. Jerry is playing his Gibson SG really clean. Great work from Bobby and Billy as well. Just a beautiful version.
Here Comes Sunshine
March 30, 1994
The Omni

I would say this is the definitive latter-era version. Great show all around. I really love the harmonies at the end. Jerry's voice sounds so beautifully strained.
Ramble On Rose
July 7, 1989
JFK Stadium

Easily the best latter-era version. Brent is on fire, and Jerry just rips into his Mutron III solo. You can actually hear him flip the knob to turn on the effect. No other '80s version compares to this, certainly not the MIDI horns versions that would follow in the '90s.
Little Red Rooster
July 7, 1989
JFK Stadium

Great version with ultra-tight playing and killer solos from Jerry and Brent (not sure what happened with Bob). The only thing missing is Brent that says "mess with your hen house" instead of his occasional alternative lyrics. I prefer the alternative. Powerhouse performance that carries over into Ramble on Rose. Summer '89 tour is one of my favorites.
Bird Song
June 30, 1995
Three Rivers Stadium

Great '95 version! Beautiful jam with lots of twists and turns. Bobby's MIDI is pretty cool. Jerry was up and about during this show.
