Mind Left Body Jam
Dec. 2, 1973
Music Hall

Quintessence of what the alembic that was the Grateful Dead could, with band members and audience, produce. "Total relaxation in the state of highest energy", with beautiful compositionality. This has become a total earworm for me.
The Eleven
Dec. 30, 1969
Boston Tea Party

I was there the next night (also fantastic, NYE, only one the Dead did outside the Bay Area), but love The Eleven from this one. Has a flavour of fruition, post-peak, energized, exploratory, warm and enjoying.
Deal
June 21, 1989
Shoreline Amphitheatre

Totally insane - not just for the audience and me but also for Bob and Brent and the other band members as they get sucked into Jerry's cosmic vortex. This is at another level.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

Tremendous energy, feeling of inevitability and choicelessness: the music is playing itself out in the timeless realm. Not a moment of hesitation. This is the Chinacat's meow. Quintessential. Trigger warning: has been known to induce flashbacks.
Not Fade Away
June 24, 1970
Capitol Theatre

This is it, the ultimate NFA - would that there were a high quality soundboard! Incredible interaction of band with audience: the cosmic love monster is just wrapped around the fans, energy going back and forth. The music reaches some deep and haunting places (a bit reminiscent of some of the 71-04-29 jam between Alligator and GDTRFB) covering the gamut of the space the Dead explored.
