A Keith stunner! Laying it down on this swingin’ version to nearly close the show. Yowza!

Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Feb. 3, 1979
Market Square Arena

This is very much NOT *the* Scarlet! Haha. Great + interesting + surprising version, but this doesn’t hold a candle to what happened the night of 4/24/78 or the sweet beauty of 1/31/78. Jerr has some really good moments in the last Scarlet run + the transition jam is bubbly + fun, but he’s pulling the band with him all night, it’s not a cohesive + full-force + everyone-involved version/night - it’s a Jerry version. Just like the rest of the night, as he seemed to be dragging the band along at times, especially Phil. (Stagger is a great example, Phil seems uninterested until the crescendo). Even Fire isn’t the heavy jam, it’s light, which doesn’t usually suit the groove. Interesting stuff!

Telepathic version. From the first note, just lovely stuff from everyone, as an amazing sequence starts to round its final turn: Estimated Prophet > Eyes of the World > Drums > Space > Spanish Jam > Truckin’ > Morning Dew > Around and Around > Good Lovin’.

3rd best of ‘77, which is really sayin’ somethin’, but still way behind ‘78. That said, you can really hear Jerr’s embryonic myxolydian. Good one.
