Other than Buffalo ‘77, this one is astonishingly above reproach. As such, what an absolute crime for it to be rated so low. Nearly unrivaled. Jerry got Buff, Phil got Balt.

One of my fav shows ever, and this sometimes gets lost in the epicness of everything else happening. Worthy.

Yup, I’m with jagraham84, this sounds like a primitive Eyes, and I’m wondering if Eyes grew out of some Dark Star/Tighten Up groovin’. Beautifully mellow yet transcendent version. (((Research edit))) From the Dead Essays blog: “The Tighten Up jam was a very common Latin-style jam theme in 1970. It's often called a proto-Eyes jam since Weir plays two repeating jazzy chords that are rhythmically similar to the opening of Eyes of the World; but they were commonly thought to be from Archie Bell & the Drells' 1968 tune. This has been debated, though - some people have pointed out that there's also a similarity to the intro of Chicago's 1969 song 'Beginnings'. And it turns out there's even a stronger resemblance to the 1968 Young/Holt Unlimited tune 'Soulful Strut,' which has similar chords and piano melody.”
