China Cat Sunflower
Jan. 2, 1972
Winterland Arena

A curious Cat peekin' through some Good Lovin'. Not an epic CCS per se, but the transitions in 'n out are as smooth as a Michael Jordan layup. Unique.

We can only wonder...

Doin' That Rag
March 1, 1969
Fillmore West

Not too much Tiny Tim and Jerry's solo blooms nicely.

Black Peter
Aug. 12, 1972
Sacramento Memorial Auditorium

A slightly brisk and jaunty version that is smack-dab in the middle of a TOO. More bluesy rock than ponderous and Faulknerian (?).

China Cat Sunflower
Feb. 14, 1968
Carousel Ballroom

Jerry's early tone is sweetly acerbic, and pleases like the burn from a swig of crisp Coke on a hot day. Seamless transition into 'The Eleven'.

Playin' In The Band
Oct. 18, 1972
Fox Theater

A big Playin’ sandwich. This Playin’ moves like a ping pong ball down a river, crashing through boiling white-hot rapids, whirling in little eddies and sometimes just barely passing over patches of submerged moss in the thinnest of microrivulets before rejoining the main flow.
Truckin'
Oct. 2, 1972
Springfield Civic Center

The 'Truckin' here is solid, but it's when 'Drums' (Billy! with some Phil, too) kicks in that things really get heady, leading to a pretty unique 'Feelin' Groovy' jam that is at turns bluesy and jazzy. It should be noted that this sequence ends with a great 'Morning Dew'.
Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
Nov. 2, 1977
Field House - Seneca College

I'm with you on this one, man. Excellent stuff. And Dave/Dick like(d) it too, as it is some of the 'filler' on DP 34.
Playin' In The Band

Madison Square Garden

Some good stuff happens here. Check it out!
Big River
Sept. 19, 1990
Madison Square Garden

This things just smokes. Also, Road Trips Vol. 2 No. 1 would probably have been helped by including some of the absolutely blistering first set performances that occurred during this incredible run at the MSG. You can say that again! Woops!
