Excellent energy and Jerry led jamming to start a smoking show

Good Lovin'
April 30, 1977
The Palladium
I typically find the post '72 versions of this song to be a bit of filler, but this one has some nice accents from Keith and some ramp-up ending chaw

Wharf Rat
Nov. 17, 1971
Albuquerque Civic Auditorium
Relatively short, given later incarnations, but this one has wonderful energy behind it, deliberate playing, and a delicate finish

Playin' In The Band
May 21, 1974
Edmundson Pavilion
I'm with Grendel on this one. I've tried this many times over the years - even bought the record store day release. There are indeed 2 solid portions over this marathon, both towards the back end where Keith steps in and provides some direction. But overall, it is pretty aimless and lacks the cohesion of all members unified together that make for a great jam. This seems more a novelty for its length. Some great parts, but unfortunately they don't overshadow the individualistic wandering that it takes to get there. I'll keep trying this one though...
Beat it on Down The Line
Nov. 10, 1967
Shrine Auditorium
Usually a filler tune to me, but this one has frantic energy. Tune sounds like its shot out of a cannon.
Hurts Me Too
Nov. 10, 1967
Shrine Auditorium
My god, Jerry's leads... So clean, deep blues approach - sounds like he's channeling prime era Clapton. This deserves more dap
Viola Lee Blues
Nov. 10, 1967
Shrine Auditorium
Spun again for the first time in a long time. Still top-game Viola. It's not just the frantic energy channeled into a thrilling peak - for me on this listen, it's Lesh about half way through accelerating the beat 2x as fast and the WHOLE band stepping up to follow. This is crazy good
Big River
Aug. 13, 1975
Great American Music Hall
This one cooks and Jerry takes near surfer-style licks during the piano solo. Band was rested and ready to burn it down this night!
