Me and My Uncle
Sept. 14, 1978
Sphinx Theatre

Carries forward the energy and vibe of the preceding Ollin>NFA. Kind of mesmerizing.
3
When I Paint My Masterpiece
Oct. 27, 1990
The Zenith

Eloquent Jerry solo elevates this one unexpectedly.

U.S. Blues (Wave That Flag)
July 7, 1978
Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Don’t always love the ’78s for this tune, but this howling version certainly warrants attention.

The Eleven
April 4, 1969
Avalon Ballroom

Another brilliant April '69 Eleven that just doesn't let up. Forceful, but totally unforced.

Turn On Your Love Light
April 4, 1969
Avalon Ballroom

Brilliantly strange. T.C.'s organ adds stuttering weirdness to a churning groovathon.

Friend of the Devil
June 24, 1976
Tower Theatre

June ’76 is unquestionably the best month for FOTD. Jerry’s solo here is a little less exciting than in some others, but everything is so well-played — it’s an easy upvote. Frankly, this one’s a Godchaux powerhouse, between Keith’s assured, lilting accompaniment and Donna’s career-best ’76 harmonizing.
Black Peter
Dec. 14, 1971
Hill Auditorium

Breathtaking dynamics on display. Exquisitely expressive.
Ship of Fools
July 16, 1990
Rich Stadium

What was it about Buffalo and “Ship of Fools”?
The Other One
Jan. 8, 1978
Golden Hall, Community Concourse

Akin to the previous show’s Dancin’, it’s very exploratory for the year.
Uncle John's Band
Dec. 1, 1973
Music Hall

To spell it out: Jerry and Billy, in particular, play the UJB intro in the style of a Playin’ jam. It’s awesome. Listen now!
