Beat it on Down The Line
May 3, 1972
Olympia Theater
Tight, inspired, rockin'. Best of the Euro '72 run. Give it some love, folks!

One knows from Jerry's opening vocals "cost a lot to win" sung with extra twang, that it's gonna be rockin' with that good county, funky vibe.

S-L-O-W & Funky! A top five version, for sure. The whole show, in fact, is worth getting. I recently listened to an interview with Jerry given a few months after this show, and he commented on how he was worried about spooking the animals at the zoo. Well, one knows those animals were cuttin' rug in their cages during this Shakedown! Well done, boys.

SilverlightV100 has already said what needs to be said about this stellar version. But I feel the need to reiterate that great interplay between Jerry & Brent on the last jam segment of this version. A better example does not exist. I never fully appreciated Brent until I first heard this version. I defy all non-believers of 'Shakedown' to hear this version. If they are still giving Shakedown a cool reception after that, then I'll rest my case...
Eyes Of The World

Kiel Auditorium
Yup, gotta give props to this one. I think it's the best of '73 all around, and that's saying a lot. This one sounds to be played with a slighter faster clip, and it seems Jerry just doesn't want to let go during the two inner solo segments. A very inspired version, indeed!
Eyes Of The World

Roosevelt Stadium
Yup, the best version of'74 for sure, and probably for all time. The energy, gusto, and inspiration the band brought to this stand alone Eyes was never surpassed before or since.
Eyes Of The World
March 29, 1990
Nassau Coliseum
Puzzled why so many hold this one in such high regard. Folks rave about Bradford, but for these ears, his contributions do not add but take away. I want to hear uninterrupted, inspired solos from Jerry, like he did on the stellar versions during the '73-74 period. Sometimes adding more substances to a cup that's already full can make for less than stellar results. That said, it's still nice to hear once in a blue, just to shake things up.
