Cold Rain and Snow
Feb. 14, 1970
Fillmore East

Intimate version. Bob is high in the mix and brilliant. Vocals are living room intimate. Band is listening to itself in heartrending fashion.

Cold Rain and Snow
Oct. 4, 1970
Winterland Arena

Seems the 4 track tapes of Oct. 4 were mixed down, spectacularly, on Dec. 17. (See comments of 1970-12-17, Matrix, on the Archive for links explaining.). I'm giving my vote to the 1970-12-17 source. And yes, I do think it's the best performance of Cold Rain and Snow, whether called by the right date (10-4) or the erroneous (but stellar) mix date (12-17). Love Mickey's hits at the end.
Foolish Heart
April 2, 1990
The Omni

Phil is at the top of his game here, laying down percussive counterpoint lines that the rest of the band slingshots off of. Rest of the band builds in energy in the bouncy castle Phil is crafting.
Comes A Time
Dec. 5, 1971
Felt Forum - Madison Square Garden

beeplus hits perfectly on Jerry's delicate vocal on this Felt Forum run gem. Jerry’s solo after the last verse drives this rendition to an emotionally intense crescendo, then they come in for a sublimely beatific landing.
One More Saturday Night
Dec. 9, 1971
Fox Theatre

Billy and Phil are on fire. On the repeat of the intro lick following the last verse Kreutzmann's playing is just sublime. Phil drops perfect bombs at the end jam. Classic Bobby screams after that. Keith and Pig, but no Donna yet. They'd been playing OMSN only seven weeks with some good versions, but this is the gem of the Fall '71 tour. Add the opulent interior of the St. Louis Fox to make a gem of an attended show memory.
Run Run Rudolph
Dec. 14, 1971
Hill Auditorium

Keith!! Need to turn it up so you can hear Keith's playing. This is the version that really lifts off. This my favorite single song performance of the Fall '71 tour. Keith is on fire and the band is firing on all cylinders. Screams of the astonished after.
