Promised Land
Dec. 9, 1979
Kiel Auditorium

Charged up with energy coming out of the hot Alabama opener. They really go after this one, and makes it stand out. Great stuff!

Loads of fun! Like versions from '79, it's an interesting hybrid version - the energy of 80's versions but minus the second solo. Still kicks, though!

Bertha

Kiel Auditorium

I always liked the late-second-set placement of Bertha in the early Brent era. This one smokes - Brent's keys are fiery and Jerry destroys the solo.

I Need A Miracle

Kiel Auditorium

The menacing transition out of Black Peter is only matched by Bobby attacking the mic like a rabid dog. The post-drums/space of this show is killer.

Slow, haunting, and dramatic. Comes slithering out of Space like a wafting plume of smoke.

My all-time favorite version. Emotional, sexy, and rewarding. Everyone's playing their hearts out, especially Jerry and Vince trading licks all throughout.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

Copps Coliseum

Such a full, rewarding, and life-affirming version. Not necessarily my favorite, but probably the one I've listened to the most. It puts me in a good mood every time I hear it...

Avalon Ballroom

Tom Constanten is all over this version and came out to PLAY this show. Love it.
Mexicali Blues

Pine Knob Music Theatre

LOVE the instrumental work in this version. Perhaps my favorite version ever.

This one's a scorcher. Jerry's soloing is particularly great.
