Touch of Grey
Sept. 20, 1982
Madison Square Garden

Only the third performance. The groovy rhythm of the early versions lets Brent's piano REALLY flourish here. Tighter than most other '82 versions.

Played a little slower than usual, but not missing an ounce of passion. Keith and Donna sound great during the outro.

Johnny B. Goode

Strummin' to the rhythm that the DRUMMERS made. They're pounding their kits while the rest of the band rages behind them. Keith sounds great too.

One More Saturday Night
June 23, 1990
Autzen Stadium

A good one played on a Saturday night. Kicks into gear in the second half. Brent's organ is stellar, and Jerry's midi textures add flavor to the mix

Not Fade Away
Sept. 21, 1982
Madison Square Garden

Fiery, with loads of Brent organ and a tight jam. Everyone's totally locked into the groove.

Excellent and unique jam. I always liked it when they occasionally did an out-there jam BEFORE Drums/Space, as it leads into the pairing really well.

A very passionate reading of the two. Everyone's locked in and giving this pairing the electricity it needs.

St. Stephen
Jan. 22, 1978
McArthur Court, U of Oregon

Of all the unique, one-off jams in any Grateful Dead song from any show in the band's history, the melodic one here is my all-time favorite. Comes out of nowhere, is pure bliss for one single minute, and then vanishes as suddenly as it appeared. Absolutely brilliant version of St. Stephen from an A+ show.
The Music Never Stopped

Fox Theatre

Odd one for sure. Kind of a train wreck besides the hot jam in the middle. Donna cracking up while it all falls apart puts a smile on my face, though.
