Dancin' in the Streets
Nov. 2, 1969
Family Dog at the Great Highway

A lost masterpiece, now restored on the new Dave's Picks! The once-missing jam is a face-stealer.

Not Fade Away
Dec. 17, 1992
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

A searing hot jam with lots of Phil and aggressive work from Weir. Underrated.
4
Hurts Me Too
Aug. 24, 1971
Auditorium Theatre

An uncommonly spirited organ solo from Pigpen augmented by searing leads from Jerry make this one stand out.

Let It Grow
Oct. 26, 1980
Radio City Music Hall

What this one lacks in deep exploration, it more than makes up for in exceptionally tight playing and strong vocals. A top-shelf performance from all.

Mama Tried
June 16, 1990
Shoreline Amphitheatre

Tight version with a spirited solo from Jerry.

Morning Dew
June 10, 1973
RFK Stadium

Bob and Phil are actually the heroes on this one.
U.S. Blues (Wave That Flag)
June 10, 1973
RFK Stadium

Much stronger than the versions from the Spring.
Loose Lucy
June 9, 1973
RFK Stadium

I've long felt that this song was sort of beneath the band, but this version is something else. The performance of the song itself is sharp, but the jam section is particularly satisfying. Groovy, patient and just plain fun.
Looks Like Rain
June 9, 1973
RFK Stadium

The delight is in the details on this one. Lots of unique flourishes and great tone on this one. Exemplifies the notion that you can't judge a show by the setlist -- you have to judge it by how its played.
Good Lovin'
May 23, 1972
Strand Lyceum

The mellow jazz jam stays propulsive thanks to Kreutzmann. The lack of a Pigpen rap doesn't bother me one bit.
