The Music Never Stopped
June 17, 1976
Capitol Theater

Swirling, cohesive and inspired. It may not hit the rousing peaks of 78, but it's damn fine.

The Wheel
June 15, 1976
Beacon Theatre

Ecstatic and confident with a sweet transition into Sugar Mags.

Mexicali Blues
May 19, 1974
Portland Memorial Coliseum

This one takes a sharp left turn into some weird tones and aggressive soloing from Keith and Jerry.

Deal
May 17, 1974
P.N.E. Coliseum

Country rock pulsing with jazzy energy. One of the most exciting pre-hiatus versions.

Nov. 10, 1973
Winterland Arena

Fierce yet loose. Lots of fun is being had and it's infectious.

RFK Stadium

Jerry and Brent really throw it back to the original studio version with the mini-jam on the bridge. Gorgeous.
Man Smart, Woman Smarter
July 12, 1989
RFK Stadium

As good as Bruce and Brent are, Jerry does not let himself be outdone. The lead guitar solo on here is an absolute scorcher.
All Along the Watchtower
July 10, 1989
Giants Stadium

The Nevilles add some special flavor to this version.
Truckin'
July 9, 1989
Giants Stadium

The jam here makes me very happy, but it also kind of bums me out. The band breaks free into a fun and interesting space, but the self-imposed rigidity of the 80s show format wins out and has them walking off stage right at the precipice of something new and unique. It's everything beautiful and frustrating about 80s Dead all at once.
Drums -> Space
July 7, 1989
JFK Stadium

One of the more thoughtful explorations in MIDI-era Space
