Johnny B. Goode
April 3, 1989
Civic Arena

Fun MIDI solo from Jerry that's answered by an equally hot keyboard solo from Brent. One of the better 80s versions.

When Push Comes to Shove
April 1, 1988
Meadowlands Arena

The band takes their time and digs into this one more than usual. You can tell they're having a lot of fun.

Friend of the Devil
July 24, 1987
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Stadium

The only thing more mind-blowing than this version is the fact that no one has nominated it yet.

Space
May 6, 1981
Nassau Coliseum

Coming out of a pretty typical Drums, Space develops into an extended, very melodic full-band groove that grows carefully into a hot Other One.

C. C. Rider
Oct. 13, 1980
Warfield Theater

Aggressive yet patient and focused.

Terrapin Station
July 4, 1989
Rich Stadium

Maybe not the most epic jam, but the performance is laser sharp, helping the weight of the piece land properly in a way that tended to elude the band in earlier years.
Not Fade Away
Feb. 18, 1971
Capitol Theater

Everyone makes the most of the jam space on this version, and the combo of Pigpen and Ned Lagin allows for some new sonic textures in this version.
Loser
Feb. 18, 1971
Capitol Theater

Jerry's fresh eyes toward this song result in a slightly different reading of the lyrics. Here he comes on like a charmer, really pitching his plan and hoping you'll buy what he's selling. The world weary tone he would give the narrator later on ultimately suits the song more, but the early enthusiasm gives this reading its own special feeling. Check it out.
I Need A Miracle
March 26, 1987
Hartford Civic Center

The intro to this one almost sounds like it's part of a TOO jam and it lands just perfectly once Bobby kicks off the song proper. Excellent version.
Drums -> Space
March 26, 1987
Hartford Civic Center

The Matrix brings out the magic if you're listening on the new Dave's Picks. Pre-MIDI Drums/Space is really a different beast. I love how the Space segment here is practically a mini TOO jam.
