Gorgeous soloing from Jerry and a tender vocal performance. The new mix on the Giants box really lets this one shine.

Bobby is dripping trippy chords all over the jam. SUBLIME

Surprised this has no votes. This version is played with a level of energy and precision CJ rarely ever got. Great set 2 opener.

Lyrically precise, energetic playing, and everyone sounds like they're enjoying themselves. What more could you ask for on this one?

The shorter versions need love to, and this one hits all the sweet spots.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

It's fine, but it tanks some of the momentum gained by Dire Wolf. Well-played version poorly placed in the setlist.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

Red Rocks Amphitheatre

This version is very straight forward but overall well-executed. One of the reasons this version manages to shine is the outstanding sound quality that I attribute at least in part to the venue. I've heard many Betty Boards and they all sound excellent, but at these Red Rocks shows the band's tone is absolutely dialed in. Everyone is audible in exactly the measure you'd want them to be.

A little rough around the edges, but they're definitely feeling this one. One of my favorite first sets of '78.

Bobby's tone is absolutely dialed in.

A stand-out version with a lyrical solo by Garcia. A major highlight in a mostly lame first set.
