Jerk and I listened to them over and over again until I had to stop listening to Hendrix and the Doors and became a Dead Head. It was a hand me down since it was occupying my older sister and her friends until alas they Decided jerry sucks so they could be punks in 1982 or whatever they did. Not I, or my sister, yet the others did.. This was my first TAPE. I saw them there in 85, but so did a lot of other people (I saw them there during Estimated). Anyways, this is better without the hiss and noise. In fact the cape Cod show is like seeing Jaws after getting bitten by a Bee, but my original tape didn't sound like the movie jaws. I wonder why. My parents should have brought me to this show when I was 9, oh well. 4 stars 5 stars 20 hits likert scales suck. This show is slow, long, detailed, mellow, the kind of show that sounds like its outside when it ain't. My friend told me indoor shows are better. I don't know why. Vietnam was over, finally.

tight as ever. In regard to the not so great reviews of this show, I would generally agree it isnt a huge stand out. I thought the Cumblerand was hot and the Scarlet was in line with other shows of this time. The Eyes was not as stellar as other shows. Anyway, cannot complain about this archive too much. Thank G*D for it. ;)

not the best
i don't think this performance is quite as strong as many of the others of June such as 6/16, 6/18, or 6/23, but that's not to say there aren't some good
...
moments. the scarlet and china>rider segue are bot rather mellow but very well jammed, and the cumberland and NFA are excellent. despite what some other folks said, i find this Eyes to be rather weak ; at over 22 minutes, i thought this version would be typically epic, but there are some very shaky moments during the minor key breakdown, and then the jam just peters out rather early into quite noodling...Zzzzz... 3 and 1/2 stars for this.

Dancing is the common denominator
I had been listening to the Dead for a couple of years by the time the summer of 74 rolled around, but had never seen pictures or video of the band except

for album covers. One night the guys are out back drinking, and the Dead get their turn on the turntable, and my best friend, who had never listened to them before, started dancing and moving that I later saw at many Dead shows later. He passed away before he had a chance to see them, but it always was a curiosity to me how and why he moved the way he had that night, with nothing but the music to go by.
Anything from May-June 74 matches anything in my book as far as quality goes for a "run". Even 77. These shows simply whoop ass. The best G-SET I've heard
...
is 5-19-74 for the unique riff they pull out but this is a GRATE version as well.. Do yourself a favor and listen to this era of shows, it will blow your mind!

these guys were. i saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 shows and they were all AMAZING. funny thing is, that in my humble opinion, none of the shows i saw were even close to what was coming out of them in the late 60's/early 70's period. i also loved the mid-late 80's. brent really injected a passion i feel had been gone since pigpen died. i feel like i'm writing a comment for the archive seth. i might have to post this.
