Great "Dark>Drums>Space" followed by a beautiful "Stellah."

Looks like a great set. Listening to the Deal on Sirius XM today and I wondered who's the female singer?

This was a fun show, and probably the best of the Summer '92 run, (tied with the RFK show two nights earlier) But, at both shows it was clear that Jerry
...
wasn't 100 percent there, and I was left with the impression that he couldn't WAIT to get off the stage. (He practically threw down his guitar and ran backstage after the little Dark Star jam)
But, the Drums were intense and the Spanish Jam pure magic. In general though, that setlist looks MUCH better on paper than it actually was.
We couldn't get into that fabled campground that night, in spite of friends that had left our names at the front gate. Security was fed up.
We settled for hamburgers at this little roadside walk-up diner that was *totally* swamped with Heads, and then drove back to Pittsburgh to stay with some "friends" on campus we had just met.
Considering they had a tank of nitrous in their dorm and endless chronic, we really couldn't complain. ;-)
Ahh, the good ol' days.

I was there with some buddies and we had a great time for the most part. I seem to remember a lot of people trying to crash the back fance and security
...
finally letting them in. I enjoy this version of the show- decent Soundboard. Okay- the playing is pretty mediocre but Jerry rips a great solo on Fire that is memorable.I was a little worried for my safety for a while there, though.

I'd mail ordered tickets, but when I sent in the envelope, I didn't have a 3x5 card so I wrote everything down on a 3x5 piece of notebook paper. I went
...
ot my PO Box & was excited to see the "I had mail" :) I got the return envelope & there were my tickets for both nights, the 22nd & 23rd. Looking @ the 1st night it said "Orchestra Row 1 Seat#9". After looking at the enclosed seating chart I realized that I was front row center (there were only 20 seats in the front), right in front of Bob!!!
Billy the Kid shook his finger & smiled @ me, saying something though i don't recall what, for smoking the joint that I did right there in front of security & the band. The campground that was just up the road a piece was a CRAZY scene after the show---anyone else go there?
I haven't listened to the show in quite awhile, but I'd say 5 stars for the experience AND the music.

The first set is a bit of yeoman's work -- Jerry really seems to be phoning it in with Loser, Must've Been, Ramble On, and Deal, but solid nonetheless.
...
Bob's readings of his material are more passionate, yet far from his best. Solid performance, but not the inspired work of the Dead at their zenith.
The second set is certainly better, with a strong Scarlet -> Fire that sees Jerry considerably sharper than a half hour before. Other than Victim, the set list is stuff to dream of -- Dark Star and Spanish Jam both make apprearances. However, both are maddeningly short. The Dark Star seemed to just be opening up and Jerry left the stage to Drums. Coming out of Space, the band slid into a Spanish Jam that suddenly gave way to The Other One -- good daring stuff, but not really a successful segue. Still, you have to appreciate the effort to try something different and play The Other One at a different tempo instead of just another recitation of the material they'd played for 25 years. I liked Stella Blue played a little faster than usual, and they closed with a joyous Goin Down the Road and Around and Around. The Knocking on Heaven's Door encore was, at the time, priceless in the cool Pennsylvania evening, and I can't separate my memories of the starry sky with the document of the performance.
As for the recording, it's not bad, which is pretty remarkable. Star Lake is a big tin shack for the band to play in with a half-ass ampitheatre in front of it. The sound, what's the word I'm looking for? SUCKED, that's it. And I wasn't on the lawn, but in the seating. The bass didn't project, and what you could hear was reverbed off the top of the stage, hence time smeared (noticable even only fifty rows in) and Vince's keyboards sounded almost annoyingly thin. Healy did a lot of work to get the sound better by the end of the 2d set. (Not to be cynical, but maybe the last time Healy would really bust his ass to get the sound at a new venue right.) You won't hear much of Phil though, as the bass just didn't project out of the tin can stage, unlike Alpine Valley, an acoustically beautiful ampitheatre, where you could actually SEE the bass roll over the crowd.
Bottom line: good document of a good show. Not great, but it has its moments.

What better way to christen a brand new arena than w/ back to back good Dead shows. I was there for both nights & while I don't claim they were the
...
best shows I ever saw definitely no complaints. Playing was tight & vocals were nice. My fondest memory of this beautiful arena is that my friend had fallen @ giants stadium earlier in the tour while crossing the highway on our way to the hotel & broke both of his elbows. His arms were in slings for these shows & people kept coming up & offering everything from help drinking his beer to free tokes of some killer KB. Thanks especially to Mike for trying to keep all the whirling dervishes at a distance so my friend wouldn't get injured further. all in all a great time. I do seem to remember the other night being a little better played, but what a cool venue. 4 stars for the show & 5 for the helpful heads:-)

My home town, I went to 13 shows this tour and the sound outside deer creek 2nd night was better than the quality of this show. For sure the spanish
...
jam was the highlight but it was brief like many versions of the songs. The set list was smokin, don't let it fool ya though because the playing was subpar for most of the night. I remember dancinng my new paotato caboose off and wondering why because it lacked something. the scene was trashed afterwards-garbage everywhere.

I was at this show and it was great. The band was riding high after busting out the Casey Jones in RFK a few nights prior. This was a great venue and

evening.
I particularly remember the darkish Spainsh Jam and then having my heart strings yanked by the Stella.

I was at this show... It was incredible!
Great set list, great crowd, and great sound.
The "Spanish Jam" and the Dark Star pt. 2 was worth it alone.... ... Not to mention a great Loser in the first set.
