Not that doing so was unusual, but it seldom was as obvious as this. First night of the tour, the first set just stops and starts until Weir literally

stops (and leaves). Confused lyrics throughout the set. UJB>S&D>UJB to open the second set raises the bar and for me the turning point is a beautiful Eyes with Jerry bringing the sweet. They've regrouped and get a solid Wheel, TOO and Wharfrat into Good Lovin' where Bob is his eloquent self again. If you are finicky about SBs, there is not much Phil here. Even when they went off the rails from the work go, Jerry still had the musical muscle in 1982 to put the band on his back and carry the load. Check out the Eyes here - you fly through the heavy turbulence of the first set and then hit this sweet cruising altitude. That unbelievable dexterity and creativity would hit the wall very soon and others in the band, especially Phil, would dig deep and take on the heavy lifting for a couple of years. Thank God that Jerry eventually came through it alive and regained the creativity if maybe not all the earlier dexterity. If you think you saw a bad Grateful Dead concert, YOU"RE WRONG!! (excluding some in 1995)

made it to this show somehow after being at the US fest just a few daze before....the saenger is awesome and the Dead BACK AGAIN in Nawlins has gotta be

good. i remember when bobby bailed out on Althea,and they cooked it pretty nice fer sure,hmmm, maybe bobby should,oh never mind....anyway ,he probably ate a bad oyster...plus he was tweaked,listening back to the stranger, its super rushed,his intro was really quick and sped up... the break was consumed with a wtf vibe cuz of bobby........so, the second set opened great ,UJB into Samson?back into UJB? m'kay...defineately remember being suprized by that,but still had that odd whats really going on here feel..the transition back into UJB felt soo weird,any way,the rest is haze....saw Brent down by bourbon street later hangin around, fun night..... and didnt get busted

UJB-> S&D -> UJB??!? Strange to say the least. FOR AN 80s show (I stay away from the 80s mostly, and those that know my reviews know they are

honest and not hyped,) I like super early or super late 80s shows. This is one. If it wasn't so short and lacking on a few songs it would be a four star show..... but unfortunately that's not the case. Want the dead at their best? P.N.E. Col. in 1973. Want the dead at their best in their PRIMAL STATE? No questions whatsoever: 03-01-69 This show is closer to three stars than four. Sorry folks. But dead *head* honesty is better than hyped ratings. 3 stars- PEACE and LOVE :)

Suprise!
We had had (had had?) the Warehouse 3some in '70 (an extra show was added after the bust to raise money to pay off DA Jim Garrison), a visit to LSU in

'77 then those splended Saenger Theater dates in 80 & 82...oh LARD how we boogied. (Y'see in N.O. you 'boogie') The '80 pair of shows each went from 8:20 to 1 a.m what with the acoustic set and two breaks. Then came the 1982 show. Originally set for 2 nights, the appearance was announced on the GD hotline at 12:01 a.m. one morning..the only announcement made. Seats went to those lucky few who happened to call the hotline that morning & haul ass downtown, for tickets went on sale exclusively at the Saenger box office at 8 a.m. the same day. Of course Howard T. Duck & i copped our limit at all 4 ticket windows. The gig was great, Pee Wee, action PACKED. Soundboard of this one is a gotta get.

I was at this show for my 30th birthday and have been looking for this show for a while. The second set was amazing, once they started they never stopped

playing until the set was finished. A deep dose of the Dead. However these recordings miss some of the best music that came between the songs. If anyone could post the whole set from start to finish i would be very greatful.

there are a number of pretty good soundboards from 82,though most dont pick up on the phil nearly as much as id like, this one on the other hand is exactly
...
what im lookin for phils comin through like the beast he is, good show too 4 for show 5 for sound quality... except for there are some aud patches but not a big deal

Fun show
This was an unusual show in several respects. the first set ended suddenly about 45 minutes in when Weir seemed to think he was having equipment problems.

He left the stage during Althea and Jerry, Phil, and Brent got into a really sweet groove. still my favorite version of Althea. The first chord of Uncle Johns Band was struck within seconds of the band coming on stage for set 2. No tuning no nothing just put on the instruments and play. I don't think anyone got it on tape. The Uncle Johns -> Samson -> Uncle Johns was killer. Bob forgot the words to The Other One and says something like "I'm glad there was no air" at one point. Great show in a great venue and the sound quality of this tape is excellent. Hopefully someone will eventually post the Day Job -> Johnny B Goode encore but it will likely be from an audience source. The board that circulated at the time was missing the encores and 1/2 step.
